Professor of Resource Economics

Konrad Hagedorn is a Senior Professor in the Division of Resource Economics and director of the Institute of Co-operative Studies at Humboldt University. He is member of IRI THESys and the initiator of WINS and affiliated faculty at the Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University in Bloomington, USA. His main areas of interest are environmental and resource economics, political economy and institutional analysis as well as the development of cooperatives and post-socialist transition processes. In numerous research projects, for example on sustainable agriculture in Central and Eastern Europe, soil conservation policies in the European Union, and climate change and energy efficiency in the emerging megacity of Hyderabad, he has shown the relevance of an institutional perspective on social-ecological systems. He developed research heuristics and advanced theories on “Institutions of Sustainability” and introduced the concept of “Integrative and Segregative Institutions”.
