Guidelines for Becoming an Affiliated Faculty Member

The Berlin Workshop in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems (WINS) invites rolling applications from scholars world-wide to become its affili-ated faculty. A WINS Affiliated Faculty member should possess a strong and active research interest in the study of institutions and institutional change, human behavior and social-ecological systems and can come from any related discipline like economics, ecology, sociology, political science, geography, anthropology, physical sciences, law or any other relevant stream. They are members in good standing of university departments and research institutes from Berlin and across the world. The affiliated faculty network is an important component of WINS and of its strategy for engaging best minds in the institutional analysis of social-ecological systems. An Affiliated Faculty member is expected to participate and contribute to the following activities of the workshop:

  • attending and presenting in the WINS Seminar
  • participating in WINS conferences and symposia
  • attending and organizing WINS meetings and events
  • participating in research projects and writing grant proposals
  • helping and guiding junior researchers
  • collaborating with other researchers
  • leading or participating in working groups
  • teaching courses and seminars at WINS
  • endorsing WINS in their respective home departments
  • including one’s WINS affiliation on publications
  • any administrative services, if needed

If an Affiliated Faculty member is based at a home department which is geo-graphically far from Berlin, these requirements can be customized accordingly.
Modes of integration of WINS Affiliated Faculty are maintained by the WINS Coordination Team. Existing members of the Affiliated Faculty and of the WINS Coordination Team may nominate reputed scholars as new Affiliated Faculty members.

Scholars interested in becoming an Affiliated Faculty member should submit the following materials to Renate Judis (renate.judis@agrar.hu-berlin.de):

  • letter/email expression of interest in becoming a member of the WINS Affiliated Faculty
  • current CV
  • short description of current and planned research related to WINS themes and topics; and
  • short description of how the applicant will contribute to the life and pro-grammes of WINS

The WINS Coordination Team will make the final decision on Affiliated Faculty nomination. Accepted new Affiliated Faculty members will be asked to introduce themselves to the WINS community by presenting their research, for example in the WINS Seminar. WINS will support them in communicating their intentions and initiatives regarding cooperation with other WINS members.
