Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Berlin Workshop in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems (WINS)

WINS Seminar

Summer Semester 2017

“WINS Seminar” sessions will take place on Thursdays, 3pm, during the summer semester in Quartier Stadtmitte Friedrichstr. 191, 10117 Berlin, 4th floor, room 4088.

Semester Theme: Governability in the Anthropocene

This year WINS takes up this debate about governability in the Anthropocene as a guiding thematic for the Seminar series.  In this way we aim to foster critical and constructive dialogue on the topic and invite presenters to address, within the scope of their area of expertise and interests, and to adresse within their lecture, their position regarding what role(s) institutions might be playing in shaping these governability problems and whether, and if so, how they might contribute toward solving them.

WINS Seminar series (Seminar of the Berlin Workshop in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems)

Within the interdisciplinary context of the Integrative Research Institute on Human Environment systems (IRI-THESyS), WINS shall serve as a platform for intense exchange of knowledge and mutual learning between scholars interested in the role of institutions in Social-Ecological Systems (SES).

Berlin’s environmental research community is among the most prolific in Europe and the world and we want to take advantage of that. Thus, throughout the 10 sessions of the series we will introduce the work of prominent scholars from Research Institutes that center around Berlin, including IRI-THESys, Leibniz Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning (IRS), Potsdam Institute for Climate Change, Global Climate Forum, to mention a few. Additionally, we have visits by scholars from other European and US Universities.
